Welcome to tulgey

This is the first and forever free instalment of tulgey: An Alice in Wonderland-inspired setting and adventure(s) for the Cairn system. Random encounters anytime the adventurers enter the wood, spend more than a week there, or cross into another forest. Use Rumour Tables to find something investigate the world and either complete the quests or follow your hearts. Reward puns and wordplay and references to canon Alice.

Note: In this free edition, some references are made to the Jabberwocky, these are beyond the scope of this edition (he was simply too big). Brillig Forest is only 1/4 of Tulgey Wood. This online edition reflects the up-to-the-second adjustments and updates. 

Notes on the Game

It is assumed that the warden and players have on hand or are familiar with the Cairn system and guiding philosophies. This adventure intentionally leaves out key details and background to allow every play-through to stand as unique and exciting. Adventurer choices will endear them to one (loosely-defined) faction while discomfiting others. In this early edition, I have not included an NPC Desires table as the full world has not been thoroughly play-tested. In the while, I encourage wardens to make sure every NPC is imbued with a desire (whether mundane or ambitious) that can be exploited or fulfilled by adventurers.

Where in tulgey?

A reader will learn, in books that have no pictures, of a time when Tulgey Wood almost ceased to be. Conflict between Galumph and Horsley Towers led to the invention of great fire-breathing machines that threatened to extinguish all of Tulgey Wood. Only the sudden appearance of a Jabberwocky forced the two sides to destroy their Firebladders and agree to an uneasy truce.

Since The Near Conflagration, the Jabberwocky continues to disturb the forest. Rumours of new strange sights and sounds compete for the mercantile heralds as merchants rush to take advantage of the peacetime. The adventurers meet in the busy markets of Galumph where fresh news of sprack creatures fills the air.
